Why purity drops after reconstitution

The certificate describes the powder. The moment you add water, a clock starts.

Hydrolysis and oxidation

In solution, peptide bonds are susceptible to hydrolysis, and residues such as methionine and cysteine are susceptible to oxidation. Both processes are slow when cold and dark, and much faster when warm and lit.

Adsorption to surfaces

At low concentrations, a measurable fraction of peptide can adsorb to glass and plastic surfaces. Low-bind tubes and avoiding unnecessary transfers both help preserve your working concentration.

Practical mitigation

Reconstitute immediately before use where possible, aliquot into single-use volumes, store at 2–8°C protected from light, and record the reconstitution date on the vial.
